What is Deacon?

Deacon is an AI customer support agent built for founders and small teams who handle support themselves. It runs as a chat widget on a website, answers visitors in seconds from the content the owner supplies, and says so plainly when that content does not cover a question. It does not assume a helpdesk or a support team. Replies come in the language the visitor writes in.

Beyond answering, Deacon records every question and groups them into topics with counts, so the owner can see what customers are stuck on and what they want built. The same script also provides website analytics. Deacon is not a helpdesk, so there are no tickets or queues, and it takes no actions such as refunds or order lookups.

How does Deacon work?

Deacon learns from four kinds of source: a website, uploaded files (PDF, Word, Markdown, text, CSV or HTML), pasted text, and answers the owner writes. On first setup it picks pages from the website to learn from, starting with the home page, and the owner can untick any of them. Changed pages can be re-fetched for free, and Deacon answers from the new version once it is read.

For each question, Deacon answers only from passages it finds in that content, and answers taken from a site page usually link to it. If the content falls short, it asks for the visitor's email, the owner gets an email, and the owner replies from the dashboard. That reply appears in the visitor's chat, which stays open for three days. Visitors can attach a screenshot or document, which Deacon reads.

Key features of Deacon

Every feature is on every plan. The widget can be styled with colors, corner radius, position and greeting, and has no powered-by badge. Conversation logs keep every exchange in full, with the source each answer named and the page the visitor was on, and they can be searched and filtered by whether they were answered. The widget's own labels come in English and 40 other languages.

Topics group questions by intent, count how many people asked, and label most as a how-to, feature request, bug report or pricing question. A What needs you view pairs visitor bug reports with JavaScript errors the pages threw, ready to copy for a coding agent. The Answer this button turns a missed question into permanent knowledge and shows the reply Deacon would now give.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Answers only from your own content and says "I don't know" instead of guessing, which reduces the risk of invented policies.
  • Every feature is on every plan, including the free plan, which has no end date and needs no card.
  • No powered-by badge on any plan, so there is nothing extra to pay to remove it.
  • Nothing is billed past a plan's answers, with no overage, top-ups or per-resolution charges.
  • Topics, conversation logs and bug reports paired with page errors give feedback founders rarely get.
  • Replies in the visitor's language with no setup, and installation takes one script line.

Cons

  • It takes no actions: it won't issue refunds, change plans or look up orders, and it declines questions about a visitor's own account.
  • Deacon has no integrations or webhooks today, so it cannot connect to other systems.
  • It is not a helpdesk, so there are no tickets, queues or rotas for teams that want them.
  • The free plan allows only 50 answers a month (about 25 conversations), and the whole-site crawl is limited to paid plans.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Deacon?

Deacon is an AI customer support agent for founders and small teams. It answers website visitors from the owner's own docs, says when it doesn't know, and groups questions into topics that show what customers need.

How much does Deacon cost?

Deacon has a free plan at $0, Starter at $40 a month billed $480 yearly, and Growth at $120 a month billed $1,440 yearly. Every feature is on every plan, and plans differ by answers, content size, web pages read and seats.

Does Deacon have a free plan?

Yes. The free plan needs no card and has no end date. It includes 50 answers a month (about 25 conversations), about 67 pages of content and one seat, with every feature.

How does Deacon avoid making things up?

Deacon answers only from passages it finds in the content you add, not from what the underlying model learned elsewhere. When the content doesn't cover a question, it says so and asks for the visitor's email. Answers from a site page usually link to that page.

Can Deacon issue refunds or look up orders?

No. Deacon answers questions and hands conversations to you, and it takes no actions in other systems. It also always declines questions about a visitor's own account.

What does Deacon integrate with?

Deacon says it has no integrations or webhooks today. It installs with one script line on sites built with tools such as WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow and Lovable.

Do I need a developer to set up Deacon?

Only to add the script, and a coding agent can do that using the prompt on the Install page. Adding content, writing answers and reading conversations all happen in the dashboard.

Will Deacon surprise me with a bill?

No. Nothing is charged past a plan's answers, and no plan upgrades itself. If a month's answers run out, visitors see a short message and are asked for their email, and you can still read and reply to every conversation.
