ShortPixel is an image optimization platform built by ID SCOUT SRL (Bucharest, Romania) that has been reducing website image weight since it launched its online service in July 2014 and its WordPress plugin that November. Its core product, the ShortPixel Image Optimizer WordPress plugin, automatically compresses existing and newly uploaded JPEG, PNG, GIF, PDF, and HEIC files using its SmartCompress technology, with a choice of Lossy, Glossy, or Lossless compression, plus automatic conversion to next-gen WebP and AVIF formats, AI-driven smart cropping for thumbnails, and one-click backup/restore of originals. Beyond WordPress, ShortPixel offers a separate Adaptive Images plugin that serves resized, optimized images from its own CDN, a command-line tool, a Drupal plugin, desktop apps (Mac, and an Archive Optimizer client), and a full developer stack for non-WordPress sites, including a Reducer/Post Reducer API, PHP and .NET client libraries, a Node.js SDK and Express middleware, and third-party wrappers for Ruby, Laravel, OpenCart, WoltLab, and Airtable. As of 2022 the company reported having optimized over 9 billion images for more than 500,000 customers. Pricing is credit-based with a free tier plus paid monthly-subscription or one-time credit-pack options (annual billing includes two free months); exact tier prices are not exposed in the site's publicly crawlable pricing content.
