What is Tellie?

Tellie is a teleprompter app for Mac, made by Steve Chazin and published by Skytech.io. It hangs from the notch near the camera on MacBooks that have one, and sits top-center of the screen on Macs without one. You open a document, press play, and the text scrolls.

The app's main idea is that the teleprompter listens. Instead of moving at a fixed speed, it follows the words you actually say. Speech recognition runs on your Mac, there is no account, and the download is about 4MB.

How does Tellie work?

Open a Word, Pages, PDF, RTF, Markdown or plain text file, or paste a script with Command-V. Headings become sections you can jump to. The free teleprompter scrolls at your chosen speed, controlled from the bar or the arrow keys.

With Voice Follow, you click the mic and Tellie matches your spoken words to the script one at a time. It waits when you pause and finds you again if you skip or ad-lib. Apple's on-device speech engine handles this, and it works offline.

Key features of Tellie

Stagehand lets you flag must-cover sections that turn green as you say them, even in your own words. If time is short, it signals while there is still time to cover the rest. Take Coach then shows your pace, coverage and one fix for next time.

Tellie stays invisible on Zoom, Teams, Meet, FaceTime and recordings. Presenter Magic puts Keynote notes in the notch, Companion controls it from a phone or tablet, and Nudge speaks your next words into AirPods. Developers can send status lines through a CLI or MCP.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Tellie?

Tellie is a teleprompter app for Mac that sits in the notch and follows the words you actually say. It waits when you pause, finds your place when you skip or ad-lib, and stays hidden on Zoom and screen recordings.

How much does Tellie cost?

Tellie Pro costs $29 once, with no subscription, for up to 3 Macs and every 1.x update. A 14-day money-back guarantee applies. After the free trial, a basic teleprompter version stays free.

Does Tellie have a free trial?

Yes. Every download includes all of Tellie for 10 days, with no account and no card. On day 11 it remains free as a basic teleprompter that scrolls at your speed, sits in the notch and stays invisible on Zoom.

Is Tellie private?

Tellie uses Apple's speech recognition on your Mac, so your voice is not uploaded and nothing you say is kept. It works offline, needs no account, and its Take Coach keeps findings only, with no audio or transcript, for 90 days.

What does Tellie work with?

Tellie shows Keynote speaker notes through Presenter Magic and works with AirPods or other Bluetooth headphones for Nudge. It opens Word, Pages, PDF, RTF, Markdown and plain text files. Developers can connect through a URL scheme, CLI and MCP server.

What Mac do I need for Tellie?

Tellie needs an Apple silicon Mac (M1 or later) running macOS 14 or later. It does not run on Intel Macs. A notch is not required, since it sits top-center of the screen on Macs without one.

Is Tellie visible on Zoom?

No. Tellie is invisible to Zoom, Teams, Meet, FaceTime, Webex, OBS, QuickTime, Loom and screenshots, even on the free tier. A toggle can make it recordable for the current session.

Who is Tellie best for?

Tellie suits video creators, speakers, teachers, salespeople, actors and anyone who talks on video calls from a Mac. Developers can also use its notch as a status display for terminals and AI agents.
