Trumailo is an email verification API built to catch bad addresses before they hit a sending list. Each address is run through eight checks: syntax/RFC validation, a cached MX lookup, a real SMTP RCPT TO handshake against the recipient's mail server, a catch-all probe using a canary address, role-account detection (admin@, info@, noreply@), a disposable-domain check against a list of 30,000+ domains refreshed daily, provider mapping (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Yahoo, Zoho, Proton), and Levenshtein-based typo suggestions. Cached results return in under 10ms at p95; deeper SMTP verification takes roughly 0.5-3 seconds. The product is provider-agnostic and is built to sit alongside any ESP that accepts SMTP, including Resend, Postmark, SendGrid, AWS SES, Mailgun, Loops, and Customer.io, either through the API directly or through async batch processing over a NATS queue. According to the company, it started as an internal tool built by a team frustrated with the cost, opacity, and latency of existing commercial email-verification APIs, and is now offered publicly, currently free during a public beta.
