Winnow is a Chrome extension for X that scores every post in your timeline as you scroll and highlights the few worth replying to. Posts that clear your threshold get a colored edge and a badge, and the rest dim to 40% so they stop competing for your attention. It is built by @pfernan95dev.
The idea starts from a timing problem. According to the maker, replying to posts that were already deep in replies or hours old produced little, while aiming at fresh posts with room left led to 1,700 followers in three weeks, starting from zero. Winnow turns that approach into a score instead of a guess made while scrolling.
Each post gets a score from 0 to 100 built from three signals: freshness at 50%, headroom at 30%, and relevance at 20%. Freshness rewards posts you can join in the first fifteen minutes. Headroom compares views to replies, so a post with many views and few replies scores higher. Relevance is the share of your own keywords found in the post.
Some posts are thrown out before scoring: replies, accounts on your blacklist, posts older than your maximum age, and engagement bait such as 'drop your link' or 'like and RT'. If X does not render a view count, that signal is dropped instead of counted as zero. Hovering a highlighted post explains the score in words, including its age and matched keywords.
Scoring is local arithmetic with no AI model, so the same post always gets the same score, and it works instantly and offline. Winnow is read-only: it does not post, reply, like, follow, or click for you. It needs no X login, no OAuth, and no X API, and it reads only the page you already have open.
Settings are plain and editable: keywords, a handle blacklist, maximum age, minimum views, maximum replies, and the score threshold. Changes apply to open tabs right away. It works on the home timeline, search results including the Latest tab, and community feeds. There is no analytics or backend, and the only outbound request validates a licence key.
