CoinLedger review: crypto and NFT tax software with wallet imports, Form 8949 reports and loss harvesting. Free tracking; reports from $49.

CoinLedger is crypto tax software that helps investors track transactions and prepare tax reports. It was founded in 2018 under the name CryptoTrader.Tax by three co-founders who had been building automated trading systems and found crypto transaction reporting difficult to manage.
The product addresses a common problem: crypto activity is spread across multiple wallets, exchanges and protocols, which makes it hard to know holdings, gains and losses. CoinLedger consolidates that data and turns it into reports. Alongside the paid tax reports, it offers free portfolio tracking and a library of educational articles, videos and eBooks.
Users start by importing transactions from exchanges such as Coinbase or wallets such as MetaMask. Exchanges can be connected through a read-only API or a CSV file, and blockchains through a public wallet address. Custom CSV files are supported for other data.
CoinLedger then classifies the transaction history into the appropriate tax treatment. This happens automatically, and individual transactions can be adjusted by hand. A historical pricing engine tracks the cost basis of assets as they move between wallets.
Before paying, users can view their capital gains and income for free. Once the data looks right, they download the full tax report with one click.
Calculation options include FIFO, LIFO, HIFO and Adjusted Cost, and users can re-run a report as many times as needed at no extra cost. Missing cost basis tools flag gaps in the data and other report errors. The platform lists support for DeFi, margin trading and NFTs, with historical data for over 20,000 cryptocurrencies.
Reports include IRS Form 8949, a capital gains report with short and long term gains, an income report covering mining, staking and interest, and an audit trail report that details every number used. International tax reports are also available.
Built-in tax loss harvesting tools help users find ways to reduce a tax bill before year end. For NFTs, CoinLedger offers a free Tax Loss Harvestooor that buys an NFT for a small amount of ETH so a capital loss can be claimed.
