Mailborder is an email security gateway product from Mailborder Systems that inspects inbound email for spam, viruses, malware, phishing, and ransomware before delivery to a user's inbox. It works as an add-on layer in front of an existing mail server or hosted email service rather than hosting mailboxes itself, and it is compatible with any email server or most hosted platforms, including Microsoft Exchange, Office 365, Zimbra, iRedMail, MDaemon, Zentyal, cPanel, Kerio, and Zoho.
The product ships in two deployment models. The self-hosted Email Gateway is Linux server software (virtualization- and cloud-friendly, including VMware, Xen, AWS, DigitalOcean, and Linode) that customers install and control themselves through a web-based admin interface, with a free 30-day trial available during installation. The Hosted Email Filter is a SaaS version of the same filtering technology, managed entirely by Mailborder, priced per seat, and set up by simply repointing a domain's mail DNS records at Mailborder's servers.
Core capabilities include customizable spam filtering, support for up to three virus scanners with zero-day signature updates, geographic/continent-based blocking, global/group/user-level white and black listing, email archiving, and spoof protection to stop domain impersonation. Both deployment options are managed through a browser-based admin console and a mobile-friendly end-user portal where individual users can view, release, and get scheduled reports on their own quarantined mail.
