What is Famly?

Famly is an all-in-one early childhood platform for nurseries, pre-schools and other early years settings in the UK and Ireland. It combines parent communication, child development records, daily logs, attendance, staffing and finances in one system that runs on web, phone and tablet.

The company positions the product around cutting administrative work so staff can spend more time with children. Its website says more than 1 million directors, owners, educators and families use the platform, and that 10,000 settings use it. Famly also says it is not an EYFS tracker and aims to document learning without interfering in it.

How does Famly work?

Staff and parents use a mobile app, available from the Apple Store, Google Play and Amazon Appstore, alongside web and tablet access. Educators record observations, daily logs and sign-ins on the go, and parents receive updates through a newsfeed and direct messages.

Behind the scenes, the platform links those records to ratios, attendance, invoicing and reports. Famly says automatic ratios and staff schedules need only a click, and that settings coming from another provider or from paper can be set up in hours, with free onboarding and no set-up fees.

Key features of Famly

Parent partnerships cover instant messages, a personal newsfeed with photos and videos, reminders, event RSVPs, permissions and live translation. Child development tools include on-the-go observations, assessments and two-year checks, tally and progress reports, online learning journals and a curriculum builder with custom reference material.

Operational tools include a sign-in screen, headcounts, automatic ratios, staff rotas, holiday and leave tracking, batch invoicing, in-app payments, funding, debt and revenue reports, and Xero import and export. A Sidekick writing assistant is included in the standard packages.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • One platform covers messaging, learning records, attendance, staffing and invoicing, which reduces the number of separate tools a setting needs.
  • Prices for three tiers are published, from £79 per month excluding VAT.
  • No set-up fees, and onboarding, support and training are free.
  • A 2-week free trial gives access to the entire platform.
  • Live translation and a newsfeed help communication with families in different languages.
  • The Custom plan adds a dedicated account manager, SLA, SSO via Azure AD and API access.

Cons

  • Occupancy reports, staff rotas, live translation and automatic invoicing sit on Premium or Professional, so basic plans are limited.
  • Public API access and live translation (on lower tiers) cost extra as add-ons.
  • Pricing and packages apply only to the UK and Ireland.
  • Groups with 10+ sites have no published price and must contact sales.
